The Pen Museum promotes and preserves the important legacy of Birmingham’s pen trade, which, at its height employed an estimated 8,000 workers, of which (70%) were women. The mass production of affordable pens helped improve literacy worldwide and wherever a pen was used it had most likely been manufactured in Birmingham.
The Museum relies on its loyal and dedicated team of twenty volunteers to help support our Operations Manager in running the Museum and keeping it open to visitors throughout the week (Tuesday to Sunday inclusive). Being an independent Museum of charitable status with operating costs circa £60,000 per annum admissions, gift aid and donations are critical to our survival.

Restored to its Edwardian Arts and Craft splendour, Winterbourne House is a unique heritage attraction – set within seven acres of beautiful botanic gardens. Only minutes from Birmingham city centre, Winterbourne is a hidden gem – home to beautiful antiques and over 6,000 plant species from around the world. Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park is home to a unique collection of animals from across the world, including Red Pandas, lemurs, reptiles, meerkats, otters, birds, wallabies and a large collection of monkeys.

This is the first Disc golf course in Birmingham, Played like traditional golf but with a disc instead of a ball and a basket instead of a hole. Everyone can throw a disc not everyone can throw one well!

Using an app on your smartphone, you'll be given nearly 150 objects to find during your scavenger hunt. You'll then wander throughout the downtown area searching for the items. Once you've found the object, you'll send a photo in to score points. Along the way, you will perform challenges and answer trivia questions for even more points. You'll have 15+ categories of objects you can find in this city walk, with each object varying in points depending on the difficulty. Don't worry, you won't be alone. You'll have a remote guide that will be texting you during your game if you need help or have a question. They will also encourage you and give you hints along the way! The objective of the game is to have fun, rank #1 on the leaderboard, and try to get as many points as possible by finding all of the objects!

Being one of Birmingham’s best attractions, The Birmingham Botanical Gardens offers something for everyone, be it one of our four stunning glasshouses showing tropical rainforest to arid desert, playground, tearoom and garden gift shop all surrounded by some of the most beautiful gardens in the UK.
There are four glasshouses which range from our exotic Tropical House through to our Subtropical, Mediterranean and Arid Houses. There is a large lawn in front of the glasshouses with a range of beds and shrubberies around its perimeter. Overall, the character is that of a Victorian public park with a bandstand set in 15 acres (6.1 ha) of landscaped greenery.

Using your smartphone, you'll be given an app to download and a starting location. Once you arrive at the starting location, you'll send a text to check in and get your game setup on the app. From your starting location, the app will lead you to 10 checkpoints around the city to answer questions and complete crazy tasks. Once you've completed all 10 checkpoints, you'll come back to your starting location to finish the game. The objective of the Crazy Dash is to have a blast with your friends and family, explore the city, learn a little, answer questions about your checkpoints, and complete crazy challenges.

You are not alone. You will have a remote guide that is just a call or text away that can help throughout your adventure!

Fifteen clues, two hours, one city - this is a self-led scavenger race that sends groups capering around town to solve clues. Unlike other city-wide excursions, this one unshackles racers from the tyranny of official start times and concrete dates. Players simply click on a launch code, head to the starting line, and begin the scavenger hunt whenever they've got a spare two hours. During the process, players will hear fun stories and insights about historical sites while discovering hidden gems along the way.

This is a city of surprises and this hour long walking tour sets you up to have a great time in the city. While exploring the brand new Centenary Square we use key pieces of public art to gain a great insight into the origins, present day and future aspirations of the city. A detailed introduction, with lots of ideas for further things to see and do in this amazing city. Timed so that you can join one our more substantive walking tours of the city after refreshments in the Library of Birmingham and Rep restaurants and cafes.

All the museums exhibited machines are fully restored to pristine condition to reflect the machine originality as seen at the end of the production line, and exhibited on one level, allowing excellent access for all.

Find out more about Birmingham with a walking tour starting and ending at the Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square. We look at the canals, Birmingham’s industrial Georgian pioneers our Victorian heritage and the more recent architecture that is all around us. Current redevelopments taking place right in front of our eyes are explained and the directions that the city is taking into the future considered. The tour is based loosely on the book Positively Birmingham, currently available at the special price of £12 in the Library shop (normally £20) at tour end.
Starting and ending at the Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square this 1 3/4 hour walking tour gives a great introduction to the city and is of interest to local people and visitors alike.
