Daruma dolls are round-shaped dolls that have long been loved by the Japanese as good luck charms that help realize people’s wishes. In this one-hour workshop, you can create your original colorful daruma doll. Choose your favorite fabric, cut and paste it onto the daruma’s body, and paint a face on it. As daruma and fabrics are two of Chofu’s main specialties, this makes a perfect souvenir of your visit to the city. While waiting for the glue to dry, engage in fun little daruma-themed games or take pictures with a daruma mask on your head. Tea and Daruma Senbei(rice crackers) will also be served at this time. This is a great way to get a quick hands-on experience of Japanese culture while putting your creativity to work.

Sawara, an area in Chiba, is little known, even to the Japanese. It offers beautiful townscapes of buildings of over 100 years old and the atmosphere of Japan from 200 years ago.

Its local festival, the Grand Festival of Sawara, is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List. Enjoy a quiet boat ride down Ono River that runs through the city center and stroll around the old town of Little Edo that will make you feel as if you have slipped back in time to the Edo period (1603-1868).
