The highlights of Girona are rounded off by the impressive old Jewish Quarter or Call, with its beautiful streets and porticoed squares. It is one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in the world and clear evidence of the importance of the Jewish culture in Girona. Nor far away from Girona we can find the county town of Besalú , that constitutes a unique Jewish heritage site in Spain. In 1966 Besalú was declared a national historic-artistic site. With its twisting medieval streets adapted to the city’s orography, arches, steps, stone houses, the superb Romanesque bridge leading to the town center over the waters of the Fluvià river. . . Besalú still retains the charm of medieval times.
