We leave Cluj and after 1 hour of driving we arrive in Turda. We'll visit here some old and deep salt mines transformed into a spectacular tourist attraction. We'll use some elevators to descend 100 meters in the mine, where we'll be surrounded by walls made of salt. We can spend time here playing table-tennis or even rowing a small boat on the small salted lake on the bottom of one of the mines.
We continue our trip and after about one and a half hours we arrive in Alba Iulia. Almost 2000 years ago, Alba Iulia was a Roman colony. Ever since the city was inhabited and for a while this was the Capital City of Transylvania. In 18th century the Austrian Emperor Carolus the 6th built here a very strong Vauban Style fortress. We'll see the massive city walls and the beautiful gates of the fortress. We'll visit also the impressive Catholic St. Michael's Cathedral and the Coronation Orthodox Cathedral.
Time for lunch in a local restaurant. After restaurant we leave for Timisoara.
