Jewish Amsterdam on foot
This tour introduces to you the old Jewish quarter of the city in which Anne Frank lived. About 10% of the Amsterdam's population was Jewish before the Second World War. This community had a substantial influence on life in what was named 'Jerusalem of the West'. Your guide Kris has lived in the old Jewish quarter for over 15 years. He will take you back to the 15th century when the first Sephardic jews arrived in Amsterdam from Spain and Portugal, to the 17th century 'Golden Age', when the city was the power center of a vast empire. For centuries the Jewish community flourished and enjoyed relative freedom in 'Mokum'. But the Second World War changed everything. The rich and ultimately dramatic Jewish history is still visible today in many monuments that you will get to know. (This is NOT a Anne Frank House ticket or tour)
