Your experience will begin with a visit to the local supermarket where your host Masao will teach you about the local produce on offer. You'll learn how to choose the freshest produce and hear about Japanese ingredients you may not be familiar with. Together you'll purchase a few things for your cooking class before you get to craft what you've bought into an authentic Japanese meal with expert advice from a professional chef in his home kitchen!

Back home, your hands-on cooking class will begin. As you chop, stir-fry, assemble and sauté, you'll learn about Japanese cuisine and some of Masao's favorite cooking techniques. He'll teach you about sourcing the freshest ingredients, explain how to vary recipes, and show you ways to make your dishes look gorgeous. You might prepare teriyaki chicken, takikomi-gohan (steamed, seasoned rice with vegetables and chicken), Kinpira-gobou (sweetened soy-flavored burdock root) and Japanese spinach topped with sesame.
