The tour starts from the most notorious sight of Reykjavik: Hallgrimskirkja, the main church, and ends on the opposite side of the city center by the Prime minister's house. Let the voice guide you and discover how Reykjavik went from a Viking village to a booming modern Capitale while seeing local gems and the city’s best-known sites. The tour plays audio automatically at exactly the right time and place using your smart phone’s GPS and the VoiceMap mobile app. Once downloaded, the tour works entirely offline.

Reykjavík Museum of Photography - Capturing the moment then and now. Tucked away on the 6th floor of the City Library, Reykjavík’s specialist photography museum is a quiet corner dedicated to the still image. The exhibition space hosts a changing programme of individual exhibitions – from emerging talent to international names or historical selections from the archives. The entrance display and staircase gallery also provide a small platform for newer work and images from Reykjavík’s past. Many people know Icelandic artists such as the Sugarcubes, Björk, Sigur Rós and Of Monsters and Men. What’s their story? At the Icelandic Museum of Rock ‘n’ Roll you can walk through the history of Icelandic music throughout the years. Guests can dive deeper into the history of each artist and listen to their music with the help of the Rock ‘n’ Roll app on the iPads guests receive when entering the museum. At the museum guests will find a timeline of the history of Icelandic music, a cinema running documentaries about Icelandic music, a gift shop filled with music related goodies, a sound lab where you can try an electrical guitar or bass, an electronic drum kit and a karaoke booth - in case you'd like to sing your heart out! Reykjavík Maritime Museum. The museum's permanent exhibition Fish & folk – 150 years of fisheries is about the history of the Icelandic fisheries, from the time when rowing boats gave way to large fishing vessels in the late 19th century, through to the 21st century. The story is told from the perspective of Iceland’s biggest fishing port, Reykjavík, and vibrantly presented through objects, text, pictures and games. The value of fish to the Icelandic nation cannot be overstated. Over the centuries fish has been a staple of the Icelandic diet, and one of the nation’s most important exports. The Fish & Folk exhibition is built around the central character of this history: the fish itself. The fish is followed from the ocean, into the net, on board the boat, onto dry land and to its final destination – the plate. The ticket also includes a temporary exhibition in the engine room. The Settlement Exhibition - Step into the Viking Age. An open excavation where Viking ruins meet digital technology. Just below ground in downtown Reykjavik, this open excavation uncovers the city's Viking Age history. Discovered during building work, then carefully excavated, these remnants of the past are the earliest evidence of human settlement in the city. Family friendly, including a children's activity area, this multimedia exhibition uses creative technology to immerse you in the Viking Age. Open daily all year round 09:00-18:00. Árbær Open Air Museum - Spend a day out of time. Reykjavík’s only open air museum, where you can stroll through the past and experience the way we lived. Fun, fascinating and full of surprises, this living museum takes you on a journey through time. Reykjavík’s early history is preserved in a series of lovingly restored homes, where you’ll encounter costumed guides, grazing animals and traditional crafts. Exhibitions, activities, and tours reveal how Reykjavík came to life, from a few scattered farms to a vibrant capital city. The museum also offers a charming cafe and a vintage sweet store (open during the summer), a souvenir shop and a children’s playground. Get there in time for the free tour at 13:00!

You see mountains in the area with hints of green, gold, yellow, pink and red which constantly change as the sun rays pass over it. It is like no other place you have ever been to and is often described as feeling like you have landed on another world. It really is an experience worth to be lived at least once in your lifetime.
