Dubrovnik doctors and herbalists

 

Six hundred years ago citizens of Dubrovnik had free medical care provided by public physician and surgeon paid by their government. Franciscan herbalists supported their medical treatments with powders and potions from their pharmacy. On arrival, visitors were obliged to spend some time isolated in a quarantine station to prevent them to bring contagious diseases into the city.
