Sydney Gems Photography Walking Tour Number Two
Captain Arthur Phillip RN took 8 months to arrive at Port Jackson where this story starts.
Tour commences at St James Station in Hyde Park, near the Convict Barracks and St James Church.
Macquarie Street was the "posh" end of town. Here lived the officers, brickmakers, marines and was home to a tent hospital, now Sydney Hospital.
First stop is St James Church, the old Mint, Sydney Eye Hospital and the NSW Parliament. Then the Art Gallery to the Royal Botanical Gardens and the castle like stables now the Conservatory of Music.  First Fleet flagship HMS Sirius and the site of Sydney's first hanging in the Rocks.
The convict side of town. Building foundations and architecture where pretty narrow streets and alleys were home to the bubonic plague, poverty, theft, gangs and prostitution.  Life was tough in Old Sydney Town.
